Effect of Dual-focus Contact Lenses on Myopic Progression
Kim Jae-Young
Abstract
The prevalence of myopia is increasing, and is particularly high in Asia, including Korea. The myopia is associated with serious ocular complications such as cataract, glaucoma, and retinal detachment. There have been several studies to control progression of myopia using optical or medical treatment. Among them, MiSight¢ç has been clinically proven and approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to control the progression of myopia in children. MiSight¢ç is a dual-focus contact lens containing a large central correction zones to correct refractive error and concentric zones of alternating distance and near powers to produce myopic retinal defocus. In this paper, I reviewed the optical design of dual-focus contact lens, and the results of several clinical studies that showed efficacy and safety of dual-focus contact lens on the progression of myopia is investigated.
